Expand. Connect. Dialogue
Our monthly book club brings opportunity for you to explore and discuss books that greatly inform the social justice work we do.
Maybe you’ve read some of these independently, but lacked a group to dialogue about the ideas. Maybe you know where the gaps in your knowledge are, but you’re unsure of the books and authors to fill those gaps. Regardless, this book group is the place for you to expand your social justice library and engage in transformative dialogue with other change agents.
We are working on creating a monthly in-person dialogue of these books at a local bookstore here in Denver. You are welcome to join us once we’re set, or please form your own collective to discuss the ideas from each month’s book.
The first book is going to be Privelege, Power, and Difference by Allan Johnson. This examines systems of privilege and difference in our society. Written in an accessible, conversational style, Johnson links theory with engaging examples in ways that enable readers to see the underlying nature and consequences of privilege and their connection to it. This book has been used across the country, both inside and outside the classroom, to shed light on issues of power and privilege. There is a discussion guide located here that you can use to kick start your group dialogue about Johnson’s text.
